980 pro is a waste on a z97 motherboard, my garage PC is based on the Z97X-UD3H board, the slot is limited to PCIE2 with 2x lanes, giving you a maximum throughput of 10 gigabits.

Here's the slot on your board, I'd simply find a less expensive drive since it's impossible to hit over 900 MB/sec or so in transfers over that bus. I threw my old 960 Pro in mine and it has been working okay aside from the known reduced throughput. Also keep in mind the slot supports both M.2 SATA and M.2 NVME drives.
