SSD Buying Advice Needed

I'm in the market for an SSD and I have about a 200-250 limit. I'm looking to put Windows 7 on it and a few games/heavier apps. So maybe 80-120 gigs?

Was looking at something like this: OCZ RevoDrive

Thanks for any help/advice in advance!

yeah i have a 64gb ocz vertex, they are very good performance ssd and good value for money you prob could get away with 64gb for windows and apps etc, but if you have the budget get as big as you can, remember if you buy a normal ssd it will be 2.5 so you will also need a mounting kit

I'm not positive, but I believe my case comes with adapters. However if I get the one I linked, that would not be much of an issue.

well im not 100% sure but there seems to be alot of pci card style ssd coming out just now, i think they are slightly faster in general

Thanks for the input james.

Anyone else want to throw in their two cents? Would be much appreciated as I'm thinking I'll be buying it this weekend.

Figure out the total size of all programs you need to store BEFORE you pick a size because ssd's are not cheap at all. Also, research the company's customer and tech support feedback ratings before you choose the do business with the brand.

Thanks for the links Benny.

Thermal, what are the prices on those bad boys? I also have an issue as I can't really afford to upgrade from my current motherboard to get SATA 6 gbps ports. Suppose I could buy a controller for that?

OCZ Vertex 3 120GB: $290

I think for the extra you are spending you get it back in performance/capacity. It uses the latest Sandforce chip and will probably be the standard for at least the next 6 months.

You will see a little bit of a performance loss by not running it in a sata6. IMO you will more than likely not feel it in real world use though. I will be using 2 in strip on a 2 3gb/s sata ports myself.

Thats in CAD too so it should translate close to my 250 mark. Plus it has another 40 gigs over the one i was looking at.

Haha, I'm already drooling.

I am trying to look for where I saw it but someone had 4 in strip running near 1300mb/s read and 500mb/s write. I was planning on getting the Corsair SSD(same as Intel 510) until I saw how well the Vertex 3 does. I am still running my 4 WD's is stripe and they do a measly 320mb/s read. Hoping 2 vertex's will put me over 700mb/s read.

yeah for sure you will like the performance increase! i got a KILLER deal on my intel 40 gig drives. $50 each, or buy one get one free basicaly. i got the first one yesterday, and was happy with it, and then the other one today so i put them in a stripe and they get 304Mbs read, but only 85Mbs write, but hey thats still the average speed of standard HDD so no lose there. ill defantly try to stay on ssd platform from here on in. i have 2 x 1tb in a strip for mostly everything, and those get 290mbs read and 270 mbs write. pretty happy with my entire beast of a pc, and for just under a grand for it all including monitor, well, i guess i cant complain. (Thanks to hubby and his super connects through work)
