I have a mushkin 180gb ssd with firmware 502abbfo, it has a firmware update to 504- I read in previous threads that it is suggested to update the firmware.
I read somewhere that this could wipe out the ssd and os system,i have a cloned copy of drive on another ssd, would it be better to install and use cloned copy, format the ssd that needs firmware update,do the firmware update, then clone the one in use to upgraded ssd,or not bother at all, sorry in advance for being lost on this one, and thanks

You will need to check the update procedure for your specific drive, some ssd drives can update will running, some can not update while they are being used as the boot drive.

Also some firmware updates leave the drive intact, while others will blank the drive leaving you to re-install.
