SSD Help Needed Please

Hello all, I just bought a 120 gb Kingston ssdNow to use as my OS boot drive. I plan on using my 1 tb WD Caviar Black drive for storage and games etc.
I tried installing Windows on the ssd with no problem, but I have noticed that certain tasks take extremely long. I have been running Windows update for hours just for 225 mb of downloads. My internet connection is fine and my download speed is very fast. What could be the problem?
Also, can anyone link me to a thread that tells me how to set up both of my drives from scratch. I am pretty sure I missed some settings in the bios as well as other crucial steps when using two drives. I am not interested in raid, I just want to boot windows 8 64 bit with my ssd and use my HDD for everything else. I want to start over and take all the proper steps with my new ssd.
Thank you all in advance for your help.

(Update)

I just saw the sticky for setting up ssd's. I will take a look at that later. Any reason why a ssd can perform more slowly than a HDD?

OS and most used programs on the SSD. Other programs and personal data on the storage drive. Once windows is installed, go into your user folder and right click on the following folders and click on properties and change the location stored to your storage drive, not the ssd.

Music
Documents
Pictures
Videos
Downloads

Make sure you have ahci enabled on the sata controller that the ssd is on.
