ssd & memory questions

Hello, this is my 1st post here and thanks for considering my questions.

I have a Gigabyte p55a-ud4p mb with G.Skills pc3-12800 2x2gb ddr3-1600, I want to get the same spec. G.skills 2x4gb for 8gb. How can I install these? can 2gb and 4gb run together if the timings are the same? or should I remove the 2gb ram?

I have a Crucial 128gb ssd coming by mail soon, will this ssd operate better with 8gb vs 4gb ram?

Windows 7 64bit os

thanks!

You can install the 2x4gb sticks in the other channel to make a total of 12gb in dual channel. Or you can remove the 2x2gb sticks and install the 2x4gb sticks for a total of 8gb of memory. The 8gb of memory will not make your ssd faster. More memory only allows you to do more things at once or play memory demanding games.

I will hold off on the memory buy until I install the crucial m4 128gb and see how the performance is; plan to use the WD 640gb hdd as the main storage for movies and pictures. I use my pc mostly for internet browsing so I guess Firefox will be using the ssd as part cache, no games yet.:)

You'd be absolutely fine with 4GB unless you're running some huge photoshop projects or anything RAM-intensive. You'll experience a HUGE difference with your SSD. :D

Good morning all and thanks for the reply johnb35 and claptonman.

I opened up "performance monitor" and then to "resource monitor", I think this is part of the windows 7 premium os.

I could see what programs were using available memory, from 4gb installed memory I have 4096 available. To try to load up my system with some typical work I ran a movie from my desktop and opened up 3 more streaming movies from the net online. With all this activity which is more than I do only 44% of my total memory was being used:)

I have my Skype on all times, so I can see it was a major user, but what surprised me was that IE8 was on using more resources. I never use IE8, Firefox is my go to browser; IE8 is a back up. I also have Chrome as a back up. Plan to disable IE8 running, maybe uninstall if necessary.

Can't really uninstall it, you can just delete it for the time being. Go under uninstall a program, and on the left choose Turn windows features on or off.

but yeah, 4GB sounds like its plenty for you.
