SSD's, What is TRIM?

I just got an SSD for a boot drive, and was wondering, what is TRIM, do I really need it, and how do I install/ configure it?

TRIM is a technology used to make SSDs faster and more reliable. With regards to setting it up, I believe Windows 7 is the only Windows TRIM-enabled OS out there so when you install Windows 7 onto the SSD, TRIM should be enabled automatically, you shouldn't need to do anything else.

Hmm. I really feel like that's not accurate (just the automatically enabled part). Do some research and make sure. Also, consider shrinking the partition that you use by about %10, as supposedly using to much of the actual hard drive can cause problems.

In computing, a TRIM command allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered in use

You must use AHCI for TRIM (AKA garbage control), not native IDE mode. But if you use AHCI, yes windows 7 automatically turns on trim mode.
