Stable OC with i5-4690K

depends on the silicon lottery. that cooler isnt particularly powerful but its a huge step up from stock cooling. some chips will be able to do 4.2ghz , most chips will be able to do 4.3-4.4ghz and some will be able to do 4.6ghz, with the minority hitting 4.8 or 5ghz "golden" chips. those are rare. so, just test it as you see fit, see if it crashes with some stress testing and gaming, then up it 100mhz again. if it does crash try adding .025mv or so at a time depending what your motherboard allows. if that doesnt help back off the clockspeed a bit.

Well, Overclocking is a great thing Origin Saint. What happens when you do it properly is amazing! Don't worry about hitting the highest overclock right off. You'll get the hang of it. But yeah, I see your point. I used to only 5% higher & 10% higher overclock on a regular basis. So that was only slightly up from 3 Ghz. Anything higher, like we talk on these forums is quite an unordinary experience if done PROPERLY. But yeah, 5-10 percent is great too. I was doing 3150 Mhz and 3300 Mhz. That's up from 3000 Mhz. I wish you Best of Luck.

An overclock from 3GHz to 3.15GHz is barely noticeable. Now if you overclocked from 3GHz to 3.7GHz+, that's a good overclock.
