I whent into advanced power settings in the screen saver window.

One drodown box asks me what I want to happen when I hit the power button on the tower.
I selected turn off.

The other dropdown box asks what you want to happen when you hit the Sleep Key.
I put go into Hibernate.

When I hit the Sleep key on keyboard a window comes up over clock and tells me
You do not have the System resorces. and does nothing.

I have 268 GB of free space on hard drive.
And 3 GB or DDR2 ram

Whay is going on?
 
Did you enable Hibernate on its tab? I would have thought if you set the Sleep key to Hibernate that it would automatically enable Hibernate but I have not tried that. What OS? This was an issue with earlier versions of XP on PCs with over 1GB of RAM for which there is a hotfix.

I have Hibernate Enabled and I have win xp pro 32 Bit.

Even if I go to start shutdown and then StandBy and let it go down.
I have to hit the power button on tower to wake it up.

My mouse and keyboard go out lite and all.

I have a 5 or six pin DIN connector for mouse and keyboard.
Does this meen they are PS2

Is it restarting like from cold or standby/hibernation? I suppose the only way to tell between standby and hibernation is to turn power off to the PC. Only hibernation restarts the PC as it was.

If you have enabled the PC to Hibernate, you should see Hibernate and not Standby when you do the Start/Turn Off option.

Yes. Since you've raised that, could it have something to do with your keyboard? Even if the three power keys were mixed up it would not explain what happens when you hit Start/Standby as that's all mouse actions.

When I go to start shutdown the window comes up and says

Standby Restart Turn Off.

If I hold the H Key down on keyboard the word Standby turn into Hibernate.
So I click it and it goes down. Then I hit the power button on tower and it says coming out of Hibernation.

And goes to desktop but I never can use my mouse or keyboard to wak iot up?
 
The actual hibernation seems to be working OK. You can exit Hibernation with the power button. It seems that the keyboard buttons don't act as you expect, nor does the mouse end Hibernation. Are you sure the PC works that way? Those methods of ending Hibernation are not a given. Take a look in the PC manual.

You did not previously comment on whether you have all the SPs (Service Packs). There were early issues with XP, possibly XP Pro. The hibernation resources issue was fixed in the SPs.

I have service pack 2.
I have not had an Update in a long time can you tell me how to do it?

I try to do it and I get a list and I never get it right.

Please tell me step by step. And even when you get to the part of after win xp brings you a list of updates to get.

I hope this helps maybe you are right.
 
It's probably best to look at MS' procedure. The simplest way to do it is via Windows Update. If you don't have that update, you have not been protected against malware for a long time with the Security Updates. You may want to scan your PC thoroughly for malware before trying to install SP3 and backup any important files. I haven't seen the MS Genuine Advantage running on my PC lately but Windows Update will probably take steps to ensure you have a legal copy.

If you really don't fancy doing the update, leave your PC as it is. If you can go into Hibernation but have to use the Power button rather than the mouse or keyboard, not exactly a hardship.

It should have installed SP3 if you have updates on Auto. Not having SP3 does not make sense. I assume you checked the current SP installed in My Computer/Properties. The 64-bit version did not have an SP3. Have you tried manually starting an update and select Express? If you don't know how to do that, start IE, Tools, Windows Update.

There are instructions on MS' site how to install using a download from their Download Center. I can't explain any of this better than they are doing on the link I posted. If you are lost, get some help at your PC.

The original Hibernate issue is not that great a hardship. Providing you are getting the latest security updates you could choose to leave things as they are, whatever that is.
