standby problem

My computer and internet works fine,

until i put computer on standby,

when i come out of standby , i am unable to get internet connection, and my computer is erratic, running slow and freezing i have to shutdown and restart.

i was running windows vista with this problem,so changed to
windows xp home,but still have the same problem.
my computer is amd athlon 64 processor 3700, 2.22 ghz, 2.0 gb or ram.
my isp is virgin media.
thanks for any advice.
 
You might need some firmware for your Ethernet ports.I had a similar problem like that with my ports.Did you check for viruses?Also that Cpu is to slow for vista!

i checked for virus and am clear,
whats ethernet? is it router or modem ?

i dont understand spec for yours but it looks way better than i have.

internet works ok when i reboot, i checked ethernet driver?? seems ok.
tried to update bios from asus site, but it wont update, gets so far then says unable to update,
thanks for your help,
