if i out my computers/laptops in Standby, is it possible 2 have the internet connection still open? like when im Signed On on AIM, and i put the computer in Standby, im signed off, and have no internet connection, can i have it open? thanks.

Not that I know of. The problem with AIM is that I think it pings you every now and again, when it gets no response, it signs you off. Not sure but I'm sure it's something similar.

What kind of internet connection do you have? Most broadband connections are always 'on', but if the computer's hardware is in standby then there won't be much to take advantage of it.

OK, well the DSL modem probably sits nicely ticking away, but AIM will need a pc out of standby to work. That you won't be able to change.

When your computer is in standby, it basically moves all your open files/programs into the system memory, and sends a trickle charge to it so the memory doesnt lose the data. But everything else in your computer is pretty much dead, so your cpu cant be processing information from AIM, or the internet connection.

So to answer your question, there isnt anything you can do in order to keep AIM "live" during standby, let alone any program. Even if your using a program that doesnt require an internet connection, such as encoding a video or tranferring files, everything gets stoped/paused when the computer goes into standby mode.
