Ok I appologise already...i have looked and read with some interest at this forum for advice..but as usual..each to their own and sometimes best to ask the question yourself.

I would use HD camcorder footage..this totally uses up space in my 500 harddrive. I know theres bigger harddrives out there...But want i ideally want to do is to stick in another harddrive...internal..I think theres space in my pc...

..do i simply purchase another hardrive..and stick it in..connecting that white square up to the connectors on the hardrive..and ..thats..it. Turn on my pc...and...'it' somehow calls my new hardrive..'z' or something..and in future i simply save photos etc directly to the new 'z' drive.

Or..let me guess..it aint that simple? Advice more than welcome.

It's basically that simple, but with some minor steps you need to perform.

After it's installed and you're in Windows, you need to go into Disk Management (right click My Computer and choose Manage, then click Disk Management in the left pane). Go down to the new hard drive, right click, and choose New Volume. Continue through the prompt to format and name the drive, as well as assign it a new drive letter.

That's it. You'll be all set.

Thanks Voyager glad to hear its that simple..i think ill manage that.

Out of interest..my machine with 1 harddrive! makes an awful clunking sound always on startup!! will having two harddrives in there double that noise!!! Overheat the motherboard?? anything i need to do to be aware of that might be a problem.

Shall I increase the RAM? perhaps? just trying to get best performance possible..have about £250 to throw at my machine.
Specs are:
PACKARD BELL
IXTREME 3720
RATING IT GETS IS: 5.9 OVERALL ( 6.1 i think for various things but processor to disc brings it down to 5.9 )
INTEL CORE QUAD 2 CPU 8300 @250Ghz
RAM INSTALLED 4.00GB
64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM, WINDOWS 7
GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeFORCE GT240

Hi Voyager,

I installed my 2nd hardrive..caled it Z:....however....can i just check with you...I followed what you told me to do..right click this, New volume...somewhere along the way it mentioned being my Masterdrive?

I didnt really have a choice?

Anyway, below is what Im left with..is that ok?

DISC 0:
packard bell (c:) Simple basic NTFS Health (system, boot, page file, active, crash dump, primary partition ) 465.76 gb 91% free

DISC 1:
Basic New volume (z:) 476.76GB NTFS Healthly ( primary partition )

Just..them both having Primary partition..i mean...is that setup alright.and i can now save HD footage to Z:..and recover it from there anytime?

On another note, as you clearly know your stuff, I bought a new graphics card...but it needs a 400w to run....i checked my power and sadly...220 - 240w ( so much for buying a package bell, iextreme machine!! ) SO...does it mean i cant use it...and have to make do with what Ive got?

Your hard drive is fine, yes.

As far as your video card goes, you won't be able to use it until you upgrade your PSU to something stronger. Look into brands such as Antec, Cooler Master, and Corsair.

Once more Voyager I tip my hat in your direction and say thank you.

Honestly, this will be my final question(s) - promise - but as youve been quick to reply in the past and Im literally tearing my hair out spending hours looking online for best this and best that..reviews etc etc sometimes the freedom of the internet can be a little overwhelming..

In a nutshell, Yes I will look into buying a new power unit ( tempted to put in myself...tempted..but may ask a work colleague to have a go instead ).

I will plumb for a ...500watt one then (about £50 )...my motherboard can take it right?

Then i will insert this graphicscard ( GEFORCEGTX 5050TI ). Ok?

Then I will update my RAM...again another minefield...two slots, so another 2 bits needed - ddr2 type.

Finally...I want a Burner...the only one i can see on budget is, £100 LiteOn IHBS112-37 X12 - again good reports/bad reports...happy to take your advice? I just want to burn best poss HD footage of my kids/family.

AND..then a printer...EPSON? STYLUS SE535 ( £80ish ) Not fussed on photocopier....etc just QUALITY of prints and not too expensive on the inks.

Im assuming youve been there, done that..bought the t-shirt..so can advise me better, without taking up much time, on your thoughts on printer/burners ( internal ideally ) and graphics cards.

Again will leave it there and thank you for your time so far. Just i have a few pounds to spend and its now of never kinda thing before it disappears which money and me tends to happen. SO MUCH CHOICE - thats the problem!
