My friend installed Star Wars Knights of the old Republic on his computer and when he goes into the game there are buttons that should say: New game, load ,etc

the only button with text is the last one which says quit. i have attached a screenshot.

i told him i would help (since he doesnt know much about computers except how to play games). any help will be much appreciated.

thanks

Hmm... very strange indeed. Is it up to date with all the patches and the like?

What is his system specs?

Very good game by the way, one of my favorites. :D

it is up to date version 1.03 (i checked that first because thats what i thought might have been the problem)

im not sure of his specs (when i next see him i will post here if needed)

also one thing i should tell u is that the disc he uses is a backup (i think he lost the original or something) and he uses a no-cd patch/crack so he can play without the cd. i use them with instead of using my original games (i once got one scratch and had to buy another copy) and have had no problem s.

i was thinking maybe its just a file that has stuffed up or something so if i could just get another of that file it will be fixed? the game itself works but its a pain.

thanx

Try reinstalling the game. I don't believe Kotor had anti-backup disc protection, like some newer games have, so that shouldn't be an issue, I've also used a No-DVD crack with Kotor, to no great disaster.. A reinstall should definitely put things right, unless the CD itself is the culprit, in which case there's not not much you can do.

ok thanks i will try it the next time i see him (ill phone him now and tell him 2 do it)

i was wondering if there was some way i could add the text of the menu to the files and then reburn. any1 know if it is possible or how? thanx

OK iv reinstalled the game and the same thing happens. i thought maybe u can add the texts in some file (notepad or something) on either the disc (and reburn) or in the installation. can it be possible? thanx

It's not just text, it's sort of like a link. The code required to repair it would probably be beyond anyone here, assuming the data is missing or corrupted. Like I said, i don't know there's much you can do, the reinstall didn't work, neither patching the game.

You can post your problem on the Bioware forum. The members there should be much more helpful in this area, it may even be a known bug, with a workaround :shrugs:
