Start Up Help

I just bought a new HP notebook, and upon start up many processes are running. How do I dictate which programs I want to run when the laptop starts up? Also, what is the best way to get rid of bloatware, surely not just add/remove programs?

haha, i ran into the same problem with my dv9000. unfortunately, the 'add/remove program' button will have to be your friend for a little while. dont worry, its not that bad. as far as start up, try doing a search for "start up". i know there is a program that does it, but im dual booting, and i dont feel like restarting up in vista to find out.

Found it. it is windows defender. go into it from controle panel and click tools and software explorer. there will be a list of start up programs you can stop.

Yes

I see that Start-Up programs screen, but which do you consider unimportant upon startup? Also, if i choose to block a certain program on that screen that doesnt mean it will not run at all correct?

i dont think it means it will not run at all. It may, but you can just undo it. Also i just look through and most you dont need. If you dont know what is is you probily dont need it. But go easy and start with like 10 and see if it runs with out errors. you cant compleatly distroy your computer by doing something

I dont think so, but you should be careful. if it looks like a windows program, you best leave it alone.

I am currently running vista home premium 64bit edition. And for example lets say you have xfire running on start up. You go to windows defender and say dont open upon start up. But you can still double click on the program to open it.
