Start up problems

I'm having a rather annoying problem I can't seem to get at. There are a number of programs I run at start-up, including an anti-virus program, keyboard and mouse drivers, an enhanced system tray calendar, etc. However, when I reboot, not all of the programs initiate, and some of those that do don't show up on the system tray. I've gone onto msconfig to ensure that they are included in the start up routine. I've gone into task manager after I've booted. and it tells me that there are some programs working that are not in the system tray. Others did not load at all. I've played around with removing some programs from the start-up routine, but no joy. I'm running XP SP2 on an AMD64-bit 3000.

have you gone through the programs "setting/setup" to see if it has an option to be enabled to run at startup. and also check to see if you antivirus/firewall(if you have one)/registry cleaner(if you have one) are not blocking the access of allowing it to run at startup.

I recommend a program called tuneup utilities which will allow you to set the startup priority for each program. Maybe this will be more effective than using msconfig?!?
 
Hi guys ... thanks for the responses. I seemed to have solved the problem and I both used both of your suggestions. I cleaned out the registry and adjusted the startup routine using Tuneup Utilities 2006. I eliminated some of the start-up stuff that I couldn't identify, and now it seemes to be fine. A little slow starting up, but that seems to be an XP trademark. :rolleyes:
