starting a server

Im a complete newb to servers and stuff like that but i am pretty good with computers in general. I want to make a server. Right now i have a modem, wireless acces point, one pc, and one laptop. The laptop is using the wireless and the pc is hardwired. Is it possable to turn eather of the computers into a server or do i have to buy one of those big expensve servers. Oh and booth computers are running windows xp home edition. Please help i want to start a server

Gizmo, first, you'll have to choose a server software. Here is a site where you can compare server softwares: http://www.serverwatch.com/stypes/compare/ search for a server soft. and download it! Then install it, and voila! You have your web server!

I recommend using linux for a server, but you can make one for windows (not recommended)

3. How much maintence do (or not) want?
