Starting an overclock

I am starting to overclock now, i know it has taken a while because of my RAM but found the problem-they needed a little more juice so upped the voltage and stable system :D

I'm on an E6750 stock is 2.66GHz, 1333 FSB.

So far on stock voltage of 1.472V i have got it up to 2.8GHz but have read that people have managed to get it as far as 3.5 to (and this sound INSANE to me) 3.8 GHz :eek: on stock voltages.

So my question here is because i am hardly an expert on this, should i push as far as i can until heat or instability takes over, then knock the voltages up? Obviously if it is too hot, drop it a little and save up for an after market heatsink, then carry on :P

or should i knock em up before it gets the really unstable point?

OC till it's un-stable, then raise the vCore on it a little. Make sure you keep an eye on the temps though, that's the most important thing.

Alright, i'm sat at 50 degrees idle, mid 50s-60 under strain at the moment at 3.1GHz so i'm going to sit on that until i can get an aftermarket cooler

Yeah, I wouldn't let it get too much higher. Ideally I'd say keep it below 65c at full load, but I think they're good up to 70c. Don't quote me on that though.

They won't cut out until about 90-110, but i wouldn't let it get that far, hell i won't let it get to 70 :P I agree with you that they are good up to 70, just below if you have it at that all the time under load, but that is the point at which you should think about under clocking or changeing the heatsink
