Starting Over w/Laptop

Just purchased an Acer 4743Z series laptop with Win 7. I would like to remove all of the "junk" and start fresh with Win 7 only. What steps do I follow? There was no disc that came with the computer and I am told that the recovery disc will still include the extra junk.

Unless you feel like buying another copy of Windows then just uninstall the bloatware you don't want.

There are some items that I'm not sure what they represent. How do I check to make sure that they are not anything important, before I remove them?

Good choice. My dad has one of the 4743z models.I think in the acer erecovery console, theirs a part where you can burn the drivers to a disc.Probably came with home premium I believe. You can download the windows7 version your laptop came with, and just put in your keys to activate. It is perfectly legal. But if you are installing ultimate or any other, you will need a new key and probably have to call microsoft to ensure the activation is successful.

But I think it will be much easier just deleting what you don't want, like those games acer throws in.Then once you get rid of what all you want, create a dvd or external HDD backup.I do not recommend making a backup to the main HDD.Open window logo, type backup and restore, open, you should see"create a system image" on upper left corner.

Hope this helps

Just a word of advice for future purchases: always demand the discs.

A lot of manufacturers nowadays will not want to include the discs you need for a full build: The OS, Drivers, MS Office, and anything else that comes with the machine. Dell, for example, claims that is because they are "going green" (sorry, but that is just BS. They are really just skimping on costs).
I'm quite serious when I say that if you are not receiving these when you get your computer, they have not sold you a fully working computer. I'm not saying that it will stop working necessarily, but if it does anytime after the warranty, then it is useless. If you buy a computer without discs that is covered by warranty, then be prepared for the usable life of the computer to only last as long as that warranty.

Sorry, but I just had to get my two cents in about this that irritates the heck outta me.

I don't understand why MS can't build there systems like Linux Distro's were upon install it searches for drivers and install's for you, I have installed different Linux Distros on laptops and netbooks made by Dell, Hp, Toshiba and Sony and have yet to see them not have driver support not to mention all free.
