Right now i have HP Photosmart D5160. Its old and just a regular printer for documentation etc. Pictures i usually go online and upload to a local store for printing then pick them up. Heard some say not HP and look at laser printer. Also i would like it to support wireless. Price of ink is always an issue. Just listening to thoughts and

Also curious as to why a laser printer if suggested.

suggestions to sort it out.
thanks

Local stores for me would be local office stores like Office depot, Bestbuy etc.
Also its strictly for home use and not business anymore. Faxing would be nice. Im willing to consider laser if needed. Budget im guessing would be 300 to 400. I would think i could get a good one for that.

I think i will go laser this time. would like to stay with a name brand though. Im willing to spend more and not be to cheap. but thanks for the suggestion. Im going to buy a printer and a good paper shredder. i have a cheap shredder and noisy and gets jammed up all the time.
thanks

Brother is a name brand  There's no need to spend an arm and a leg on a multifunction laser printer.

Actually there is no need in buying a laser printer if it's just for documents, a fifty dollar multifunction printer is good enough.

Laser and expansive (let's call them that) printers are good if you have lots of documents to print everyday. If it's just the occasional print, then no need for an expansive printer.

If you don't print often, your ink is just going to dry out. Toner is already a dry powder.

I use my printer occasionally and this never happened, I don't buy the cheapest ink possible either this might be the problem.

HP ink has always dried out on me, Canon hasnt.

My family has a Canon MX860 that we got with our iMac late 2009. It's a multifunction and is very nice for it's age. We get the cartridges filled for about $5 each (there's 5) at a local store and they haven't leaked or dried out yet.

I talked about this before and having a HP Designjet 110 Plus and having the tubes and print heads froze up. My wifes printer and had not used in two years. A wreck. For the record i tried soaking in warm water as mentioned from Voyager and read online did not work. New printheads was $200. Just gave away and called it a day. She lost interest in it.

I highly recommend going laser. In fact I need to buy the printer Travis linked to or the next step down as I don't need to fax. Cheaper in the long run and ink doesn't dry out. Since I've went laser I'll never buy inkjet again except to print my color business cards. Brother is a good brand, highly recommend them.

I have the Brother 7860DW which is the older model of the one posted above and highly recommend it. I had inkjets for many years and always had trouble with the ink drying out and plugging the print heads. I've had the Brother about 2 years now and it has been flawless.

Ok.........i will focus on the Brother laser. I don't need the fax really. I seen a site in the past where i can fax from the net i think. Not a biggie. Have neighbors have have the ability to fax and that will work. The ones that fax seem a lot bigger also.

Not really, the multifunction capability, copy and scan is what makes it look bigger, the fax doesn't have anything to do with it at that point. I currently have this one as a standard printer.

Also currently have this one as a inkjet multifunction.

I might get this one since I don't need fax capability and save some money.

Got the printer today. Its a Brother HL-L2360dw.
I paid $99.00 new. NewEgg wanted $200. got it from Office depot.
Right now i have it hooked up to my computer. Checking and getting it working.
Its fast. One question though. I want to network it so my wife can use it too.
Also has wireless built into it also. im curious if i can use both. direct hook up and wireless for the tablets and cell phone. Next question now that im writing this can i print wireless from my Samsung galaxy 5? the printer doesn't support bluetooth. Im just a little confused about this. wont be able to work on it for a couple days.
thanks

You'd have to use something like hp print connect on the tablets, then install the printer through chrome. You can google how to print from an android tablet.

But yes you can print through the network and USB. Though that's kind of pointless to do when all the computers will be on the same network.
