Startup problem with docking station

I got a HP ProBook 6570B here (with windows 7 x86) which has startup issues. When you try to boot it up when it's on a docking station it occasionally shuts down. This problem is not present without a docking station. The computer also works on the docking station once it has booted up past the sign in screen.

When i check Windows logs i get a log stating that the computer shut down due to either power issues or it freezing up.

i tried the following to fix the issues without results:

Change docking station

Change adapter

tried to boot the computer without battery

installed all windows updates

installed all the newest available drivers

Checked if the docking port underneath the laptop is damaged

disabled power saving settings

Reinstalling the laptop is a last resort method i'm considering, since it will be very time consuming and our colleague is unable to do his work properly in that time.

On it's face it does sound like a power issue. Since you have tried this without the battery and just the power cable, I'm wondering if the power brick is supplying enough amps. Or perhaps there's some setting in BIOS that has to be used.

I highly doubt reinstalling Windows will solve your issue. Because it sounds like this is happening pre boot where's it doesn't happen with Windows fully loaded. However, you did mention that Windows produced an error log, so Windows must have started up at power up to generate the log file.

"Power supply requirements vary between computer devices. For example, one docking station might require 90W and another might require 120W. Using an incompatible power adapter can cause the docking station to work improperly. Further, using an incompatible power adapter can damage the docking station power supply, either immediately or over time."

When using a docking station, make sure you are using the power adapter that came with the docking station. Don't use the adapter that came with the laptop. The power adapter needs to have a higher power rating in order to power the laptop, the docking station and any peripherals you have plugged into the dock.

I'd bet money this is the issue. That particular HP and docking station require at least a 120w IIRC, used to sell them.
