When my laptop startsup it displays ( f10=rom based setup )
then on next screen it shows ( 1720-smart hard drive detects imminent failure (failing attr:05) run hdd self test in f10 setup ) and bottom of screen in blue box it says ( f1 ignore )

I have run hdd self test , but it does not help,
it just leaves me with same problem.
how can i get it to just start windows normally.

laptop is hp compaq nx 6125
i am running windows xp.
thank you.

Looks like you have S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology)enabled on your hdd which is supposed to "estimate" disk wear and tear and basically warn you before you have a HDD failure.

It's telling you HELP I'M ON MY WAY OUT..... PLEASE BUY ME A NEW HDD and transfer the OS to it ;)
