ok, i think i have a bad hdd, or at least one that is going bad, but i figured i'd see what ya'll thought
whenever we have the comp shut down for awhile and try to boot up, it'll start coming up, and about 2 seconds into it, before video even shows up, it makes and metal kind of clicking noise and restarts again
then, after video does come up, i see that it's coming back up and it gets right to the screen where it shows what IDE drives are detected, and then it shut's itself down and starts coming back up.
with each time it gets a little bit farther in the boot process. finally after about 10 boots or so, the system will let me log into windows. problem is, as soon as i try to open a program or file that is saved on the c: drive, the system will freeze up, make that metal clicking sound and then just does nothing, not even ctrl+alt+del does anything
i have a spare hdd that i can install a junk copy of windows on to try temporarily, i just figured i'd ask ya'll because it'll be about anoth 3-4 days before i will have the time to replace the drive and try installing windows.
so, what do you think?
EDIT: since i am not sure exactly what is wrong with it, and the hdd was just the first thing that popped into my head, i figured the desktop section would be ok for this thread. if not, feel free to move it
