Startup Program List Cleanup

Hey there,

I've been cleaning out the computer. Deleting unused files and uninstalling stuff I don't use anymore.

I've always been curiouis about which entries in the Startup list can be disabled. Starting up my computer always seems to take a while. There is some time in which the Desktop is showing but I can't really do a whole lot as it's still loading other things. Or at least I'm assuming that's what it's doing.

Anyway, here is a list of my Startup programs. Which ones do you recommend disabling?

On a slightly related note, I have something else that occurs on startup. When the Desktop loads, Windows plays the "ding" sound a couple times. (If you don't know which one, it's in "C:\Windows\Media\Windows Ding.wav") What could be causing it?

Thanks for the help.

Google Update
Steam
iTunesHelper
QuickTimeTask
SunJavaUpdateSched
Windows Defender

These can be disabled

I'm not sure what AeroSnap or Rainmeter are, but if they are just regular applications that you've installed, then those are safe to disable.

Since you are running avast, I would actually go into windows defender and turn it off.

AeroSnap is a small program that lets me snap Windows to one half of the screen, much like Windows 7. I'm using Windows Vista, and I've always wanted to have that.

Rainmeter is a program that lets you have "apps" or "gadgets" on your Desktop. They are completely custom made and quite fun to screw around with. Here is an example.

Otherwise, thanks for the suggestions. I've disabled some of those, so we'll have to see if my computer is any faster.

If yo use iobit toolbox portable, it gives you details on what each startup item actually does and whether its necessary or optional.
