Startup WindowsXP/IDE drive on SATA eMachine

This is a hardware/software problem. Recently I bought an eMachine ET1331G with Windows 7 on the SATA drive but then put my old Hitachi IDE with Windows XP in there as well. Now in order , my IDE drive should startup first. But then it goes to the Windows safemode menu, and anything I pick (ie: normal startup, startup without networking, etc..) it then just restarts the machine and I'm back at the safemode menu. I press F12 at the startup prompt and that way I'm able to start Windows 7. Now I know some eMachines have startup problems with Windows XP but I'm hoping someone has a solution hardware or software-wise to get my XP rubbing with my IDE drive.

Any advice or referral is appreciated..

You are unable to switch windows to different computers is what I've been told. So just get all your data off the XP drive that you need and put it onto your new drive.

As said before, you can't take a hard drive with windows installed on it from another computer and put it in yours and expect it to boot up as there is different hardware between the computers. You will have to do a repair install of windows if you have a retail version of XP. If its an oem version you will be forced to buy a new copy of XP. As the oem license was tied to the orginal computer it was installed on.

I have several items of software that will not work with 7. Such as an older version of photoshop and a soundblaster card whose software won't update past Vista.
