State of SSD reliability vs. HDD in Q4 2009?

Gonna be getting a new computer shortly and thing I'm undecided on is whether to get an SSD or HDD. I like the SSD because of the quietness and speed. But I've read some reports that suggest the reliability of the tech is not very good yet. Can anyone direct me to a recent write-up or article that talks about the current state of things with SSD?

If I stick with HDD, I'd get a 7200 rpm single drive because the 7200 are quieter than the 10,000rpm drives. Although I wouldn't mind paying for a 10,000rpm drive for extra speed, it's the extra noise that is prohibitive to me.

Any experiences, opinions, or info about SSD offering in late 2009 would be much appreciated, thanks.
 
I have a 10,000 rpm hard drive and I can't hear it.?

I've also never heard of a SSD failing.

It's more about performance as some of the cheaper SSD's won't be faster than a good 7200, 32mb cache drive.

The more expensive ones, however, are very expensive for a reason.

In my opinion, you don't "need" an SSD to have a fast computer.
 
Honestly, regular hard drives tend to outperform SSD's in most real-world situations. And noise levels are almost non-existant with most drives today. I have 3 WD drives in my machine and the fans are much louder than the drives (and none of my fans are exactly noisy).
 
The reason that SSD's are going to be so popular is because they are reliable. Like a lot of other amazing technology SSD is still in it infancy. SSD are good because they will never really break down. Seeing as how they are solid state, they have no moving parts. They are basically thumb drives are steroids. For now I would stick with HDD until they perfect SSD.
