currently using an AMD 64 3500+ thinking of gettting a 4400 X2 if i stay AMD

if i upgrade to pentium i was thinking about a 3.4Ghz P4

i use my pc for video editing, gaming and general purposes

Upgrading (if you want to call it that) from a AMD A64 3500+ to a P4 3.4Ghz will show very littler performance in gaming, if there even is one. The only increase you would see is in video editing.

Go with the X2 4400+, it easily beat any Pentium 4.

or wait untill socket am2 comes out? and you might want a whole new computer
instead of upgrading only a cpu for like $500

smart man. the wait isn't that long, and you will regret blowing all your money on the eve of the M2 technology.

As it stands, I might be upgrading from a SocketA to an M2 lmao, I will completely skip the A64 generation.

i agree for the most part. the 4400+ chip is very nice, and should outperform any pentium 4 3.4 ghz in most applications. id say the 3500+ beats it in alot of applications too, id prefer the 3500+ over the pentium 4 3.4ghz myself...

Is that 3.4Ghz Pentium the Pentium D 950 (Dual core) or Pentium 4 650 (Single Core)? Your current processor would probably outperform the 650 at gaming, so that really wouldn't be an upgrade. The 950 will outperform the X2 4400+, but is more expensive even than the X2 4800+.

I'd still recommend going with something from the X2 series, the X2 4800+ should outperform the 950 in general.
