Steam or Shop?

I do stuff like that to EA, I hate them, glad to see someone else does that.

The shop I visit is cheaper than GameStop and Steam. And the employees up there will chat forever, I am the same way. I like the idea of Steam but I also like the physical copy.

Who doesn't hate EA really :P

Not trying to naysay/start an argument, just curious jns, what makes you say a shop is more reliable?

Well one, they know me already at the local shop. Two, I get discount just because of that. Three, I don't have to wait for the game to finish downloading every file which will take FOREVER with my internet connection (1.5mbps). Four, if I get a shit copy of a game (happened already once when I bought "The Club") I can return it.

I personaly have some issues with steam in general such as it likes to update whenever it wants and updates the games whenever it wants. Yes I've told it not to auto update and it still does. A previous poster said Steam has no DRM, that is very wrong it's DRM'd all to hell. I also have an issue with me buying The Orange Box in a store only to find out that it's Steam powered and I have to sign up and isntall Steam or that you have to have an internet connection to do so. Which I do so it's not an issue but boy would I be pissed if I didn't. It's nice not putting a disc in but a NO DVD crack can do the same for me.

they'd better change some of their policies or they will be going out of business

Yep I am happy they are down for the year and they wont make their deadline.

I feel sorry for the people who get fired but I love to see EA dying. If only the fools running it would get fired and they brought in old school gamers.

I sometimes wonder if the people making the games anymore actually play games. I say this because most their titles anymore have zero gameplay.

Nice graphics but I would sack graphics for a awesome title with 100+ hours of gameplay like Oblivion ANY day of the week.

Speaking of Steam vs Shop, just read that L4D is on a weekend special 50% off. In this case I would buy off Steam. Haha does anyone know if that game is any good? I was thinking about getting it, but not for $50. I might get it now, but it's still money.

Its not bad for $25 if you get stuck with 3 retards though the game can really blow hard.

I played it for about 3 months then I went back to Counter Strike ^-^

Still I payed 20 bucks for my copy so I got my monies worth.

Heh...Steam has no DRM? LOL It's called a game manager for a reason...

the first 2 it is much better than steam.

the other 2 though, 3. ye you have to wait for dl, but if time going to the shop, buying the game, having a chat, shopping round a bit more then coming home doesnt equate to download time then you must be living next door to the shop. 4. You can't gete a bad copy from steam or other online stuff

rWe don't have a old gameshop within 20 miles. And even then, I'm not a huge fan of gamestop.

I've never had any issues with steam and although it takes a while, I like dling games rather than having to constantly keep track of DVDs and boxes and keys

So sorry to revive a dead thread, but did anyone hear about the study that Steam conducted? That weekend deal with L4D 50% off brought a 3000% increase in sales. Valve made more money on that game that weekend than they did at their release of L4D. So game companies are finding that they can actually make more money by making games cheaper. So hopefully games will be cheaper in the near future. Thanks Steam! :good::)

I am one of the people who took advantage of this deal :P so ty steam and ty me (any all the other thousands that bought it :D )

Dunno if it will have a huge impact though, steam have been doing this for ages now. Wonder how much they made on their christams sales with most games having 75% off =S

im not sure but im loving that they have a 50% off sale on at least one game every weekend, ive gotten 4 or 5 now. :)

Haha yeah. I've never even heard of Multiwinia before but I might even consider buying it after the sale. I just got the demo for the game and it's pretty fun.

yeah, they got that and some other indie games in a package for pretty cheap right now, i know I-fluid is really fun.

What is it? i havent seen the offer or heard of it or anything before :P I probably should ahve nticed though, im on stteam every day talking to people or playing

It's an RTS, but there's different game modes. You should check it out, they have a demo that lets you play most of the game modes.

hahaha, looking at the screenshots it looks...unique :P .

I have the demo downloading now, looks like fun. If I like it i may get the indie pack...£5 for just multiwinia, or £6 for about 5 games...i'd pay an extra quid for another 4 games, even if those games do suck.

Another reason to buy steam over shop...great deals and demos then the real game if you like, all without leaveing the house :D

Ok, the download is silly. the game is only 64 MB =D got an entire game in under a minute. Couldn't do that at a shop ;)

Haha and you didn't even have to get out of your chair! :P

Well the Multiwinia game is a lot of fun. It's definitely something new, but I don't know how long it will last as being fun. I'll have to decide if it's a game I would actually want to pay for. Lol. Steam's doing one thing with the sales, but they're still not free! Haha
