Steam won't download updates!

So whenever I try to play CS 1 or condition zero (you know to relieve the good old times ) It tries to update them, and they're stuck at 97% now I do have dialup but if it was able to get to 97% in no time, the last three percent should be no problem, I've left it on overnight a couple times, but nothing seems to help, anyone have any ideas? Oh also if I try to just click on one of the icons for the games, it just stays at the "preparing to launch..." screen

Sounds to me like Steam went poo-poo on you.

that's what I thought, so I tried a reinstall, deleted all things that ran with steam, then steam itself, and tried again with just CS1, actually it's the anthology, I don't know but it makes me feel like this hah hah

When steam stops downloading stuff for me right click on the game and go launch game. It's a little trick that works for most people including myself.

Well, I can't count the times I've done that, It sits at the "preparing to launch _____" This time though I got an error, "could not launch _____"

I sometimes 'pause download' and then 'resume download' and it start up again.
