Stick with the stock thermal pad or go with paste?

I have an AMD CPU (quad core 2.3ghz) and I'm wondering if I should use the pad or some paste that I have from other builds. I know the paste will generally dissipate heat better but I'm worried about voiding the AMD warranty which I have heard using paste can do so. Should I just monitor my heat levels until the warranty expires and then put the paste on if necessary? Or will the paste be beneficial enough that I should just go with it regardless? I don't know how good those pads are on AMD's I have always had Intel's.

I,ve never used the stock thermal paste. Remove it and use something better. But if your thermal paste is something like the old white silicone its not going to make much difference. I dont think it voids the warranty, I mean really how would they know. Plus some of the BE dont even come with a heatsink.
