Stock cooler on e8400?

So I just picked up a bunch of new parts for my computer, the new e8400 included. Previous to buying these new parts I had a Blue Orb II cooler on my amd 3500+. The cooler is too big to fit on my new motherboard, because it hits both the ram and the chipset heatsink. I decided to just put on the stock cooler for now, but do you guys think I should keep it on there? Is it really a lot worse than a decent cooler I could buy.

Also, random question: When I got my new gigabyte motherboard, one of the plastic screws from the chipset heatsink was missing, so I had to use an old one from my old motherboard. Weird?
 
If you are not OCing the stock HS and HSF will be fine.

If you are sure that you did not lose one of the screws I guess it was a mistake by gigabyte.

Well I would like to OC a bit, so I guess I should probably pick up a better cooler. Any suggestions on one that doesn't take up as much space as the blue orb? And I don't think the motherboard came with any screws. I literally opened up the box and the chipset heatsink was hanging there by one plastic screw.

btw.. you practically have the exact same computer as me haha.. hows the e8400 treating you? I just installed it.
 
It had only one screw or there was one screw missing. You said two different things in the prior postings.

Just look at the coolers on Newegg to get a feel for their size.
 
i would say don't even waste your time with even trying to put that stock cooler on the processor. buy something like an arctic cooler 7. that was the easiest cooler to install imagineable.
 
Alright.. I want to get the arctic cooler 7.. looks nice. I am just concerned as to whether it would fit in my case or not. I'm sure it would have enough vertical space, but my blue orb II wouldn't fit because it was so wide in all directions.

i'd say yes. i have that motherboard and mine fit with no problems. i would take your mobo out to install. might seem like a pain, but it's really not a big deal. you will probably have to put the RAM in after the cooler is on.
 
im using a ac7 on a ga x38 mobo and it fit no problem. you might have to put the ram in the red slots instead of the yellow slots though b/c of the fan
