Stop error installing xp

I have an Acer AM6540 that had a hard drive crash in it, so i bought a new one (Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB) Put it in and went to install xp. To no avail it comes up with a BSOD stop error and i cant get past it, same error with xp and vista install. It happens after the initial loading from the cd and says starting windows before the welcome to setup screen then bam BSOD. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

Change the sata controller setting in the bios to either IDE, native IDE or compatibility mode and then try reinstalling.

I have looked through the BIOS and can not find any setting for that, it was my first thought. I was wondering if maybe a slipstream containing the drivers for the SATA controller would work, but i can seem to find them. Any ideas?

It is actually a Acer Aspire m5640, Manufacture date is 4/2008. I Know it will support 500g because that is what the computer had when it was bought. When i go to the Acer website it only says the computer came with Vista and Seven, so i am trying the SATA controller drivers in a slipstream XP install. I will try that and get back to everyone.

Well it cant be the sata drivers because i hooked up an IDE drive and got the same BSOD stop error. Anyone have any ideas? I am just about out of ideas on this one...
