Stop errors caused by atikmdag.sys

I didn't know where else to place this. This was the most relevant category.

In the past couple of months, I've been getting the occasional stop error from atikmday.sys. I've looked up solutions, and it's either one of two things;

1. the problem is unresolved
or
2. the provided solution messes up your system (using a an atikmdag file different from the current driver.)

Other people have contacted AMD support, and there was no response or resolution of the problem.

I haven't gotten a chance to write down the log of the stop errors. but it says the access of atikmdag is the issue.

I'm on the latest driver from AMD, but I'm not sure if I want to revert back to a previous one. These stop errors didn't happen on the old driver however.

So I'm not sure what to do to stop the BSoD's. Any advice would be appreciated.

My specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (SP 1)
Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 290x (4GB DRR5)
Processor: Intel Core i7 (4770, 3.40GHz)

(if you need any additional information, ask and I will reply)

Uninstall AMD drivers completely via Add and Remove Programs
Download Display Driver Uninstaller
Download AMD driver (latest)
Restart
Run Display Driver Uninstaller for AMD
Restart
Install AMD driver downloaded earlier.
Restart.

Update

I'm really thinking Flash Player is the issue now. I'm monitoring my uptime without watching any videos. So far so good. No BSoD's since.

I haven't tried anything with the drivers yet, and I don't plan to until I'm finished with my observation of how long my PC stays on without watching any videos that require flash.

Usually a BSoD happens every other day, so I'm going to keep an eye on it for today and tomorrow. If there are no stop errors, Flash Player is partially the culprit. It won't be 100% solved, but at least I know that the pin point is flash. I'm not sure what it has to do with my graphics card. Maybe atikmdag.sys is part of the driver that handles flash. I have yet to do research on it, but I will keep everyone updated.

Thanks for everyones replies.

What version of flash player do you have? It's a security issue if you don't keep it updated. The lastest is version 14.

Additional information

I am on the latest version of Flash player.

I'm very eager to reinstall the drivers, as that would be the main issue. But I'm sticking with the observation first.

AMD Driver version

Driver packaging version: 14.10.1006-140417a-171099C
Catalyst version: 14.4

I'm fairly sure I have the latest driver because I replaced my graphics card when the old one crashed. I had to reinstall the drivers in May I believe it was.

Update

In the meantime I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled flash player. I've been experimenting with videos with different quality.
So far, no problems at all. This is one video at a time. I have a problem with opening 5+ tabs of youtube at the same time. But so far no stop errors at all. I'll continue to watch videos and keep an eye on it. all qualities including 1080p and 4K work great without a problem. If another stop error happens, thats when I will take action on reinstalling the graphics drivers.

Problems Presist

I complete reinstalled my graphics card driver. I'm still getting BSoD's. I switched to the html5 player, and its still the same. so it's not flash player. I'm not sure what it could be.
