I had a buddy bring me a computer today to work on.

Long story short,,,bad storm and now the computer will not power up.Power supplies turnes on ok but nothing to the screen. No signs of blown anything on the mother board.

I pulled the HD and everything seems to be intact there.

Where is a good place to start?NEw Ram card?Intall new HD and run windows?

Have you tried unplugging the 24 pin motherboard connector and then replugging it? Sometimes that'll work after power issues.

pull out both sticks of RAM. press the power button, if it beeps then your CPU is good, and most likely the motherboard is good too. as someone said above, check the vid card.

also, just because the fans spin, dont rule out that the power supply is bad, there is a lot more going on inside that obtrusive box than most people account for.

Thanks,,I tried a good known power supply and that was not it.This computer has on board video so I will try a video card.

I will check the things you mention in the morning.Great test btw for checking the CPU.Thanks again.
