Strange Boot Problem

Hi,

I have a custom pc running windows vista premium. I have 3 hard drives (1 x Sata 160, 1 x Sata 320 and 1 x IDE 320) the problem that I have is that I cannot boot the pc unless I have both SATA drive plugged in. I have tried to have just the 1 with the Operating system on plugged in and I get a messaging from windows boot manager saying some files are missing or corrupt. I have tried to play with the bios and change the boot order and change the hard drives but it still does not work. One thing that I have noticed though is that the bios shows the names for each of the 2 sata drivers the wrong way around. For example it shows the 320 drive as having the serial number of the 160 and vise versa. It does not matter where I plug the drives into I am still getting the above issues - any suggestions?

Thank

You will no doubt have some files on the secondary disk that Windows wants, and without them it'll sit there and say I can't find them. It's the issue of removing HDD's from an operational PC.

what do you suggest I do then? shall I try and partition the IDE drive, install my copy of windows xp on that and boot that drive with both of the Sata Drives unplugged?

also - any reason why the bios calls the drivers the wrong names?

Thanks
