Strange boxes covering text in certain programs but not others

As of recently some programs have begun to have boxes that are the same color as the background of the program covering the text. This has become extremely annoying and disables me from completing tasks on my computer. I would really appreciate help. Thanks in advance.

I would do a system restore back to when everything was working fine to see if its resolved. Otherwise, it could be a video driver issue or possibly malware issue or recent software issue.
