Strange connection problem

I recently switched from dial-up to a satellite connection. When I try to run my online games I cannot connect to the games updater. My browser works perfect the connection says its running at 54Mb/sec. On dial-up the games would connect instantly but its a no go on the new connection. There is no proxy server on this set up Ive tried connecting directly to the modem and shutting off the firewall. Nothing seems to change. Every once in a while the game will connect but completely by fluke so it seems anyways. Ive tried Hellgates updater, City of heroes updater, and guildwars updater none want to connect on a regular basis.

Is there something i can do to my connection to fix this annoying problem? any help would be greatly appreciated
