Strange CPU Speeds

My AMD Athlon 64 3200+ is running weird...i think. I have CPUz pulled up and it shows the currnet MHz of my cpu. Well it's bounces between 1000.00 Mhz and 2000.00 MHz every few minutes. It mostly stays at 1g, but I thought these were supposed to run at 2.0 anyways? What could be causing this?

What does that mean exactly? Sorry, i'm just getting into PCs. Haha

It slows the clock of you processor done when it is not in use so it doesnt consume as much power and it makes you system quiter.

my sempron used to drop down to 800Mhz, i dont know what my athlon does cos ive never enabled cool and quiet on it. there's nothing to worry about with the changes in speed though
