anyone got any ideas? this error will come up about 4 to 15 times, rapid fire, and the second i click cancel another will pop up, like i said, about 4 to 15 times, seemingly random how many times... are there any ways to fix this computer? if not i think it'll be ok because im ordering vista and scrapping this f*cked up xp

um, im not really sure what to do with that info, even though it does enlighten me that it could be dangerous... (which i kinda figured after the 100'th time i had to press "cancel" )

It is a virus. They effect all of those windows programs like iexplore, taskmgr, etc. Get some virus scan software. Or get a HijackThis Log.

Go to Start> Run and type in regedit then hit enter.
The go though the directories...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,

In the RUN directories there should be summin named wuauclt, you should be ok deleting this file.
Then reboot.

goto start > run and type msconfig
look in the services and startup tabs for wuauclt. uncheck and and select apply and reboot, you will get a box on reboot telling you that the system config has changed and you need to select dont show this again.

well i tried both ways but couldnt find any reference of wauclt anywhere... is there some other way? or am i getting my errors for lack of that file? maybe a program is trying to find it but cant and gives me that error, but im totally guessing

Im thinking its a virus, the 16-bit subsystem error implies your trying to run a 16bit application, the winaulct thing is not a 16 bit app so it leads me to believe its something masqurating as windows update but is not.

wuauclt.exe manages windows auto updates, its odd that would have a error, you might need to run a few anti virus scans or post a HJT log in Computer Security section, could be a virus or something

i just deleted symantec, the only reason i got it before was because of a permanent army/navy registration code that i had LOL (long story, dont ask) but look. i did something i would usually regret, but i think it might've helped... i went to the place where the error specified that the error was origionating from, deleted all things that has wauclt.exe in its name, and the error seems to have stopped. my system is still acting sluggish and puffy (only way i can describe it) so i am going to get a new antivirus and scan, then try defraging, maybe a system restore later on if nothing helps, anyone else have any opinions/ideas? oh andi alreadu use ccleaner
