Strange files in My Pictures folder

Could some one please tell me if the following files should be in 'My Pictures' folder.
The first one is called:
Thumbs.db it is a Data Base File of 3986kb
it has a picture of a yellow cog and a green cog
(I thought it may have something to do with thumbnails)


The next one is:
Desktop.ini it is Configuration Settings of 89kb
it is a picture of a notepad and yellow cog.

They are both normal, don't worry about them.

Desktop.ini has any personalization you may have done to the folder.
Thumbs.db is automatically created when you use thumbnails or filmstrip view

Yups, just hide them if they annoy you.

right click on them and go to properties. check "hidden"

Thanks for that. A handy tip! I might hid them so that I don't touch them accidentally and erase them or something

i delete them...just cause.

Deleting thumbs.db does nothing, it will be recreated the second you view the folder in thumbnail/filmstrip mode. As for desktop.ini it probably removes what ever non-default settings you had for the folder (I've never tried).

As mentioned deleting thumbs.db does nothing. Deleting desktop.ini will remove those nice pictures on the My Pictures folder. If you wish to have the icon symbols back on the folders then visit this MS article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555077/en-us
