Strange Issue...

Lately my fan on my psu is making horrible noise like the bearings are going bad on it but it seems this has been followed by other issues. I.E. when i start my computer like first turn it in i have to hit the reset button a few times before it will post and give me a screen. When i loaded speed fan it seemed all the volateges were within range and ok. My question is woould that fan going bad be the cause of the multiple resets to get a post and if so could someone reccomend a good psu with modular cabling and enough power for 2hdd's 2 dvd roms a radeon x1300pro and several fans?

on my compaq presario desktop, if the fanis not spinning or barely spinning, a screen comes on that says that the fan is not spinning and it just shuts off even b4 boot screen. if you overclcking that may be the culprit int he restarts , or if your CPU is overheating

You won't be overheating when firsting starting up a system. Besides a niosey fan that may need replacement how old is the case? Besides a supply issue a bios problem or loss of cmos information due to a weak battery will cause problems at times. As I have to remind people often newegg can often see higher prices on certain items where shopping around can save.

The Corsair model there is a good gaming/ocing model. Is it the supply fan or a case fan being noisey? On the last build startup problem were seen not by the supply but a weak battery until one day nothing worked. Memtest pointed out all kinds of errors on good memory? A $2 battery fixed all until the cpu cooked one day. Not getting past the initial post screen points at one of two things. A good supply however never hurts.

Assuming you've confirmed that it is your PSU fan at fault (as opposed to another fan in the case), it is possible to replace the fan, but not recommended unless you have some experience in this area. Replacing the PSU is the safer option.

It is possible that the PSU is causing your other problem, but not so likely.

The Corsair is a great PSU, but significantly more than you require. For the price, this is very difficult to beat: Ultra XVS 600W ($49.99)

Ultra? Gee that's on the "bad" list. A preference for a lower cost supply if you are looking a gaming or high powered model would more likely be the FSP model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104037

With no sticky yet? oh well here's the "good" and "bad" lists again.

The only Ultra units that I would have classified as bad were the first generation X-Connects. This particular XVS is based on the same platform as the X-2, and is a solid, well built unit for the money. Honestly, I wouldn't leave Ultra in the bad list any more. Some of Ultra's newer units are among the best you'll find (the X3, for example).

As for the FSP, take a more thorough look at the original post - he's after a modular PSU.

Gee? I seem to be doing all of your work there in revisions of the "good" and "bad" lists. :P Any plans on a sticky? hhmmm...
