Strange Power Supply problem

Hello all.
I had a recent problem with my power supply just recently, I only noticed it the last 2 times I shut down my computer.

Anyway, what would happen is that I would have the computer on for a good length of time, then when I went to shut down, everything went well, except the fact that the power button was lite up, and the actual power supply was still running (I could hear and feel the fan) - everything else had shut off.

Any idea what could cause that?

thanks

Well, I am currently infected with a large quantity of viruses[you can look at my thread in computer security] and it infected my OS, the virus somehow changed the power settings to stay on, allowing it to continue its business. I would really recommend going through a routine check with Hijack this and let a professional check it out. I just unplugged my power supply to make sure. Best of wishes

hmm...
it doesnt do that all the time though - when I moved up to the university and kept the computer on (for only a short amount of time) - it powered down fine.

it was the last 2 times that I left it on for hours and hours...

Well, guess I'll run another virus scan and test it out again.

thanks

Go to control panel>power options>advanced and make sure under "when I press the power button" it says turn off. that's if you're using XP I'm not sure about vista

alright folks, so I tried it again.
There was probably a good 5-7 second lag between the computer turning off, and the actual power supply turning off.
Other than that, it was fine.

hmm? it never really lagged that much before.
