Strange problem with HDD

This is the second time it's happened, so I think it would be a good idea to post here.

Basically, when I turn on the computer, it gets to the windows loading screen - but just stays there. I've sorted it out these past two times by taking out the HDD, and putting it back in.

But, if it's something more serious - well, that's why I posted here.

Anyone know what it is that's causing this?

run a program that will check if the disk is going bad (forgot the technical term), and if it is, replace it

Could be a missing or deleted system file. Have you tried safe mode?

Both times it has happened I tried to boot into safe mode, but it just froze at that screen with all the code.

If nothing works, you can change the drive to make it a slave. Throw the drive in another computer, access any data you want, and back it up. Just make sure not to boot from your OS on that drive. Then, I would recommend formatting the drive, reinstalling your OS, and going from there. If everything then works fine, it is more than likely not your HDD but was a corrupted OS file.
