Strange PSU usage

When I turn on the PSU switch, cpu and case fans start spinning.
There is no video or POST, unless I press the mobo power switch.

I have seen others have this problem thinking the mobo (and everything else)
is dead, when they only need two power switch presses.
I don't have to do this with other Asus mobos, so why here?

Mobo: Asus P5LD2 with latest BIOS
PSU: Antec Smart Power 2.0 450 W

Since most P5LD2 owners don't seem to have this problem,
I'm starting to think Antec's PSU is somehow incompatible or damaged.
The same Antec PSU does work as expected with a different Asus mobo.

I thought I should share this, since the workaround is very simple.
Strange that two power switches are need to start the boot.
It is almost like only one PSU rail turns on and then the other rail,
completing the power requirement.

That's how it is supposed to be :D

I always have my power supply switch on, and then I press the front power supply switch when I want to turn on my computer.

The power supply switch is just extra.

That's not what I said ...
PSU switch alone should not turn on *any* accessories.

I have seen reports of Antec Smart Power 2.0 450 W PSUs being a bad batch.

This is the second damaged item from newegg.com in the last month.
Unless those guys toss everything around like it's not theirs, Antec's quality control must be history.

yes, that's deffiently not right. Do you have the option to return it without having to pay the shipping back?

You are correct, Antec has been receiving a lot of bad publicity recently over poor quality control with the SmartPower line. I'd be hesitant to recommend them.

As you said, turning on the PSU itself should not cause fans etc... to spin up. If you have another PSU to try, give it a go and see what happens. If it works, RMA the Smartpower unit.

Well, this PSU is part of Sonata II case. Now I know why this case often gets free shipping. After all, chances are good it will be shipped back again.

I will see if I can get Antec to RMA just the PSU.

If not, I would need to replace the PSU with some quiet one.

Antec is ignoring my emails and not answering my questions.
They are offering me to do a lot of paperwork first.

I'll offer them a lot of paperwork the next time I should buy from them.
Then we'll see.
