strange xp photos

hello

i just installed new HD and put XP pro in it , every things been working good up up to today ,

when i left click save pic as , it opens i save it in my photos , but when i go to my photos there is nothing in the folder i pit them in , folder say its empty ,
i can save photo from my editing programs and save them in there and i can see that file , so i go back to the net and do save as , and it opens the folder and i can see all of the files , i save it then go to the folder and nothings there but the one i saved from editing ,

darn thing has me baffled

any ideas on this ,

When you save any file with a specific extension (as an example BMP) The folder Save box will only show BMP files in the folder, Unless you change the Save box > Save as type extension, to All files (then it will show all files in the folder)

I hope this makes sense

yeppers that makes perfect sence , but that's not the problem ,
i have at last count 12600 photos on this lappy , that's why i put in the 500gb hard drive a lot of them are in jpeg / tiff /psd /nef ,, and so on

what going on here is when i left click (save as) it opens the folder i CAN see all of the photos in the file , but when i go threw my doc's my pictures and go to the folder none of them are showing up , and it's only with new downloaded photo's ,,
i can see all of my other files from before ,,, , like i said strange

i just installed xp pro on here also , but every thing was running just fine ,
and have been reinstalling all of my programs .

i thought it might be the IE6 so i updated it to IE8 last night ,

it started with yahoo messenger photo sharing , works on some not on others , ,

so im perplexed on this ,,as i do need to be able to transfer photos around

i also have ZA 9 they just came out with

I still say that the file (picture) you are saving has a different extension to all other pics in the folder, and therefore when it saves as (lets say) picture.gif (or whatever extension it is) Your JPG (or whatever) pictures do not show up

All normal
 
I just tried it again , i only get .jpeg / all files as option ,

when i drop it to list view there is only the one file in there , that i saved threw PS

like i said strange

So when you change it to "all files" (or basically *.* in old terminology) you don't see your other pics?

If not, then you have the wrong folder
Please re re confirm the "Pictures" folder is the same

Although I still feel its likely jpeg and possibly jpg differences in extension issue here
 
i tried that made a new folder in the first my first layer of my picture folders just to make sure i had the right folder ,

,
 
make a new folder in C Drive root

ie: C:\MyNewFolder
Just to make certain

Then copy some pics to the folder
Then save a few pics to the folder
I'm sure it will all become clear
 
ok new i went back in and renamed the folder went and saves another photo ,

i went up one level and see the new renamed folder but also see the other folder from before , i went in and did the show hidden folders but its still not showing up
 
Oh, so you are browsing to the wrong folder location
You know there are a few "My Pictures" folders (Ithink you have XP)

Make perfectly sure that you are going to the correct location, when saving
 
ok i went into C:\ 1newfolder is what i named it so it was on top of the list i saved one jpeg and one gif to it from the net , and then closed every thing and went to the folder in C: 1newfolder and it shows empty nothing in it , not in thumb view , list or details

like i said strange

Well I hope you meant C:\1newfolder (ie without the space in there)
And I also hope that when said

That you confirmed that you saved another "jpeg" and/or "gif" exact extension picture file

?
 
yes no space in there the folder is in the C: list ,

i went in and moved a photo in there from one of my other files and that one shows up
 
Maybe you should go back to folder options
Confirm Hidden files are showing
Confirm System files are showing
Confirm you are viewing all file types (and not hiding known extensions)

Really this is just something simple

My point was that if you use the Save box, and lets say save a DOC extension that you won't see the Pics in the folder
But if you are saving the files with the same extension as some of the pics in the folder, then you will see those pics only (just as you would only see already DOC files in the folder, if you were saving DOC files)

You could also save the exact samepic twice. By rights it will say, do you want to over write the existing file.

yep if i save the file twice it pops up with replace the existing file box
and then saves it , but still not showing up wile in explorer only when i go to save another photo will the contents show in the save window

i can move photos from one folder to another and they show up fine , its only when saving from the " save as " where it all falls apart

like i said strange , im starting to wonder about the zone alarm browser security they just added in this new ver,

I'm a tad tired
But I've never heard of this
Explorer (just being My Compter > C drive> etc etc etc) should show all files
If you have confirmed show all files including system and hidden files

The only time it won't, is if your ram is bad or something, and the folder is refreshing and just taking a while
Hmm, actally unless it some joke program (malware basically) that stopping you seeing files in Explorer

Anyway, I must log off
 
like i said its all very strange , , it all should be simple , all scans say every thing A ok

i would hate to have to move all my files off and reinstall every thing again

well thanks but I'm not reinstalling ZA again i already ran the ZA removal tools there tech sent , i also have spotmau i ran in between .

i have satellite INTERNET so bandwidth is killing me on all of the downloads

so i have no clue but I'm tired of dealing with it today , maybe a clear head tomorrow . i will deal with it again

i still suspect the check point browser security on this
