Stream Processors?

What are stream processors? What do they determine out of a graphics card. I ask because the 9600GT seems to have 64 while the 8800GT has 112. Trying to decide which one to get. :P

From specs, the 8800 GT beats the 9600 GT by a margin. For those who are on a budget, the 9600 GT hands down because it costs around $50 cheaper.

I already know the benchmarks for the 8800gt and the 9600GT. They are a very close race indeed. I'm just wondering which one to get cause XFX is selling this pretty cheap 8800GT card

only $150 after rebate + a free company of heros game (though i doubt i will play it). Most of the 9600GT are $150 anyways so I'm deciding which to get.

It's not really $150 if you think properly.

Think of it as you're paying the amount of tax for the original price, THEN you get the deduction.

Compared to a instant rebate, it's kind of like a scam that everyone does nowadays.

Oh I see. I guess the 9600GT would be cheaper by $20 compared to the 8800GT. However if I were to buy a graphics card right now, I would probably buy the 8800GT because it still gives slightly higher fps plus I heard the 9600GT still has issues that needs to be resolved. If I was to buy the card in a couple of months though, depending on the price, I'd probably buy the 9600GT since I expect it to drop in price even further and the issues should be fixed.

Besides all that, I'd still like to know what stream processors are and how they affect the graphics card.

I don't know about hands down..but it's pretty close. The 8800GT 256mb edition is actually cheaper than the 9600gt, and performs just about identically to the 512mb version in medium resolutions.

Lol lots of info indeed. Thus the reason why I don't like to look at it. Something wikipedia says in 5 pages could be explained in a couple of sentences. Theres way too much background information in wikipedia. :O

The more stream processors, the better.

Done.

But due to low memory bandwidth it falls apart faster in the medium resolutions, and even moreso if you turn on the AA/AF. I would prefer the 9600gt 512 over the 8800gt 256.
