Stuck in power save mode

I have a Lenovo desktop with a Lenovo monitor. When you turn on the PC all you get on the monitor is power saving mode. The Lenovo monitor works fine attached to another PC. I used another monitor, an HP, connected to the Lenovo PC and still have the same issue. Also tried another cable and still have the same issue. I would think the problem is with the PC, but have never seen anything like this.

Onboard video or dedicated card? Most likely just the video card. But you will need to diagnose to be sure.

As always thanks John. I pretty sure its on-board. I have a couple of video cards. One is actually on my PC at home that I can use on the Lenovo in question. I have the CD that came with it as well. If I installed it, that would determine if the on board was bad?

Thanks John, I will try the card.

Okedokey, how do you clear the CMOS and what exactly does that do? Once you clear it, what do you need to do after that? Not familiar with this.

I was gonna suggest doing it but didn't think it would help. Remove power cord from power supply, remove cmos battery, press and hold the power button on the case for 10 seconds and then wait 10 minutes. Reinsert battery, reconnect power and try booting up.

OK I will try that first before the card. I will do that in the AM tomorrow and let you know what happens. Thanks for your help. If you think of anything else, let me know. Been going for 17 hours, need rest.

Leave the power cord connected, you want the computer to be earthed the whole time - just switch off the power plug at the wall and psu and then follow the rest of Johns instructions.

You're welcome. Stick around.

With out a doubt I'll stick around. I have learned real world stuff on this forum. I am a student at a technical college learning networks and computers. I learn way more just on this site. Consider me stuck.

Thought I would post additional information, just in case someone does a search on this. After doing CMOS reset, I forgot to go in and set the date and time. If you don't do this, when you go on the web, you'll get a "certificate error". Just go in and set the date and time to your appropriate area. Maybe this will help someone in the future.
