Hi everyone,

I am currently working towards becoming a web designer. Ive done a little bit of work on my own, making a few small websites, and did abit when i was back in school using dreamweaver (but that was 5 years ago). I intend to take a basic webdesign course, so that i can recap and remmeber anything i may have forgotten, but im not sure where to go after that.

I have looked at taking some Adobe approved courses in Flash, Dreamweaver and Photoshop, but would that be the best route? or should i look at doing it another way?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Veno

everything i have learned has been by reading and then practicing what i've read. I consider myself to be as capable a webmaster as anyone who has taken college courses for it. if you are interested in learning photoshop, the photoshop for dummies book is actually really good. i normally hate the dummies series, but this one is unlike the rest. it will get you comfortable with the basics, at that point i suggest finding tutorials online. there are hundreds of thousands of photoshop tuts you can find, from the extreme basics to the most advanced stuff possible. it is going to take a LONG time to learn the ins and outs of photoshop, so stick with it.

for php and mysql, the head first series of books is top notch. i have learned xhtml, css, php, mysql and now java from reading this series. they make it very beginner friendly, but are still thorough in their teachings which is nice. if you want more info you can send me a private message... i have tons of books to suggest that i have read over the years

Hi DirtyD86,

Thankyou for the help. Im obviously being a bit thick, as i cant see to find the PM option, but any help is appreciated.

In your opinion, is Flash really worth it?

Thanks again

You have to have 100 posts in order to PM.

I think flash is worth it if you want to be a web designer.

hey, sorry i didn't pay attention to your post count. flash is worth knowing, but there are things you should definitely put ahead of it. id recommend learning xhtml/css as well as FTP programs...get to a point where writing xhtml and css is like second nature to you. from there, learn a graphic program of your choice. photoshop is the obvious favorite in this category. from there a language with a bit more functionality would be a logical step to take. php is fun, and addictive once you learn the basics. obviously this wont all happen overnight. just take baby steps :)

Thanks.

Ive got a fair bit of time to put into it (just about to finish a different course, and i put about 20-40 hours a week into it) so it isnt a huge problem, and i tend to pick up things relatively quickly.

so the order im aiming for is:

xhtml + CSS + FTP
photoshop
php
then flash??

I think im going to be buying a small library......

PS: if it suits you better than talking on here, and as we cant PM, my email is k3thebest99 AT hotmail.com
