Stupid Monitor!

Heya guys, I'm new, I hope this is the right place to put this...
My monitor has been being stupid for quite a while, the screen flickers, there are some lines on the screen that are brighter than the rest of it that seem to follow the mouse cursor around, whenever I log on I have to click on Adobe Gamma in the Control Panel and adjust the brightness. And when I play games the screen is so dark I can't see at all. I don't use an LCD monitor, it's pretty old, and we are in need of a new one, but we can't get one at this moment. What can I do for now? And when I play the games the monitor is at its brightest, and some games don't let you adjust the brightness.
 
It sounds very much like your monitor is on its last limbs.

If Im understandint the flickering correctly, all you need to do is go into the control panel>display settings>refresh rate. Set it somewhere like 75, perhaps 85 if possible.

As for the other problems, I dont think there is a way to fix it. Unless maybe downloading another gama adjuster that loads up when windows starts. Unfortunutly, this isnt my area of expertise.
 
I set the computer's refresh rate to 75 hz but the screen just went black and the light thta was green turned orange as if the computer was turned off, I tried 85 hz but the same thing happened, I could press the Windows key and it would go back to the desktop, I press 'ok' on the window then I load it up again but the hz was back to 60. Stupid monitor!!
 
Wow, your monitor only supports 60. That is way old. After a month of living with that, I would be blind by now. :P. I know you said you couldnt exactly get a new one, but now would be a very good time. El cheap walmart has a couple of 15inch LCD's for a $100 (if I remember correctly).
