stupid partition magic

So I partition 1gig of my laptop drive for Suse, figureing it would be enough....guess it's not. So I go back in to windows to up the partition size and Partition Magic won't load. It gives me an error about the new Linux drive not having an assigned drive letter and closes out.

Am I going to have to fdisk the thing or is there a way to format the partition and lable it so that it can be recognized?

Try Re-start if that dont work, reinstall the program.. If that dont work... Consider reformating..

i'll try to reinstall part-magic, but reformatting the whole thing right now is stupid. Both windows partitions (surrounding the linux one) are fine and windows is running without a problem. Linux will install to the linux partition, it's just too small. All I need to do is deallocate some of the second windows partition to make SUSE happy.

nm, i got it to work. I just used the XP installation CD to reformat the partition in FAT. Now partmagic sees it just fine.

I would like to thank you for using your common sense... "Re-format" is the trigger happy word of the last half-century....

When in doubt, stand back and use common sense.. dont jump right to the "re-format" option...

Anyway, my suggestion would have been to format that partition to something partition magic understand, and you did just that.
