stuttering games?

just recently got my current system and ran into a couple problems recently. when playing a game, sometimes it will just randomly get 'stuck' and sit there like that for a minute or two, then kick back into normal. It's not lag because it happens on single player games also, and it's not low fps because on most of the games i'm playing I average between 80 - 160 fps. I doubt it's because of overheating...i oc'd my gfx card to 490/1200 for a while but put it back down to stock and it still did it a little.

i would take a look at the temperatures of your graphics card and your processor... its sounds to me like they're throttling back in order to cool down and during this period they're not doing much which is why the game freezes.

this would depend on the game in hand; some games have a built-in option to check the framerate, its normally enable by typing a command into the console. however i've heard that some people use a program called fraps... i've never used it before so i dont know how you go about using it

My computer also did that, when i would overclock to high and it would overheat i would seriously look into that.

I'm using fraps to check the fps and speedfan to check the temps...here's a screenshot of after about 2 hours of steady medium/light usage:

what would make my hd0 run so hot? I figured out that temp1 and temp2 are the two cores of the cpu (i think), but I dont know what the rest are...

nothing too terrible has happened, and my case feels cool (sometimes slightly warm at the most) to the touch (my 3 intake fan grills are actually cold most of the time), so I don't see how my temps are so high. thanks for your help!!

Your HDD could be running really hot becase it may not be receiving any cool air to cool it down. SpeedFan may be reading the temp wrong because I don't think your HDD should even be working properly(or at all) at that temp.
