suddenly laggy computer

about a week ago, my computer started lagging while i was surfing the next. then i opened itunes and when my music or podcast play the sound with get crackles in it if i am doing anything but just listening (like typing, moving the mouse, even change folders in itunes) i have done dish clean, defrag, virus scan and spyware scan but know have help. can anyone give me some advice on what to do?

-empty recycling bin
-stop unnesecary programs from running; through task manager
-go to control panel unninstall some programs that you dont need
-disable some stuff from system config

did all of those, the computer starts up faster now but the laggyness and sound cracking is still happening. anyone have more ideas.
